CBD oils are available in different strengths and potencies. Hence, choosing the right cannabidiol (CBD) strength can be a difficult task for some people. Beginners are recommended to use low potency products, but if you are trying to treat some chronic health conditions, then high potency CBD oil can be useful for you. Also, the strength of CBD oil you have to choose can be based on several details including the condition you are seeking treatment for, the concentration of CBD, the presence of other compounds in your CBD oil, etc.

Common Strengths Of CBD Oil

CBD strength or potency refers to how strong the product is. It indicates the amount of cannabidiol contained in the whole bottle of your CBD oil. If a bottle of your CBD oil is rated at 300mg, then it is half as strong as the equal amount of CBD oil that is rated 600mg.

Additionally, the strength of CBD can be dependent on the dimensions of the bottle too. 300 mg CBD in a 15 mL bottle can have twice the strength of 300 mg CBD in a 30 mL bottle.

Today, the majority of CBD oil manufacturers produce CBD oils and tinctures in 3 different strengths including 300 mg, 600 mg, and 1000 mg. Each of these CBD potencies can come in 15, 30, 50, and 60 mL bottles.

In addition to this, high potency CBD oils which carry 2000 mg and 4000 mg CBD are also available in the market. Nevertheless, it is better to avoid such high potencies if you are a beginner or are trying to treat mild conditions.

Calculating The Strength Of CBD Oil

You can calculate the amount of CBD you take with the help of a simple equation that goes like this:

Concentration of CBD in mg ÷ size of the bottle in mL = strength of CBD in mg/mL

I.e., 300 mg CBD in a 30 mL bottle will have a strength of 10 mg/mL, which means 10% of your oil or tincture is pure CBD. Therefore, you will get 10 mg of CBD delivered into your body for each ml of CBD oil you take.

The strength of CBD is usually determined as mentioned below:

  • Potency below 5 mg/mL is termed as low strength.
  • Potency between 15-30 mg/mL is medium strength.
  • Potency between 30-60 mg/mL is high strength
  • Anything above 60 mg/mL is classified as ultra-high-strength

So, when choosing the right CBD strength for you, make sure to notice these factors.
